Whitchurch Forest Pre-School, Dorset
Starting pre-school soon? Here’s what you need to know - from what to pack to how we help your child settle in with confidence, curiosity and care.

Starting pre-school is a big milestone — for both children and parents! Whether it’s your first time or you’re just looking for a refresher, here are some helpful tips to help you and your child settle into Whitchurch Forest Pre-School smoothly.

What to Bring Each Day

  • A named backpack – With a full change of clothes (including socks and underwear) in case of muddy adventures or little accidents.

  • Wellies and waterproofs – We play outside in all weather, so waterproof trousers and a coat are essential.

  • A labelled water bottle – Fresh water is encouraged throughout the day.

  • Lunch box – If your child is staying for lunch club, please provide a healthy packed lunch (nut-free).

  • Seasonal extras – In warmer weather, please pack a sun hat and apply sun cream before arrival. In colder months, add hats, gloves and extra layers.

Settling In

We understand that every child is different. Some jump right in, while others need a little time to feel comfortable. Our staff are here to support your child — and you — with patience and care. You’re welcome to stay for a little while during the first few sessions if it helps.

Daily Rhythm

Our day follows a gentle rhythm guided by the children and the seasons. From free play and forest school sessions to stories, songs and shared meals, each day is designed to help children feel secure, curious and confident.

Communication

We believe in strong partnerships with families. You’ll receive regular updates through our notice board, newsletters, and chats at drop-off and pick-up. You’re never out of the loop!
